The allure of mid-century designed Rummers live on in Oak Hills!

 
Architecture aficionados will traipse through Oaks Hills next month examining eight homes built by Robert Rummer, known for his distinct, midcentury modern style.

The Historic Preservation League of Oregon's tour of Rummer homes will show a sampling of the 29 houses nestled throughout the 650-home community.

The tour will benefit the league and Oak Hills' nomination to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Still shy of 50 years old, the neighborhood is young by historic standards. NetHope, a collaboration of the world’s leading humanitarian response organizations is mobilizing efforts to support aid agencies responding in the region.

The American Red Cross is accepting donations for Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami relief and is working closely with The Japanese Red Cross to help those most in need .

World Vision is mobilizing in response to the earthquake and tsunami.

• Save the Children is responding to the needs of children and families affected by the earthquake and its aftermath. Donations can be made to Save the Children’s Japan Earthquake Tsunami Children in Emergency Fund.

 

• International Medical Corps is responding to the health needs of the disaster's victims.

 

• Mercy Corps is working with its partner Charity Peace Winds Japan to accept donations.

 

• AidMatrix is working with its partners to connect resources and material for various response efforts.

To help you prepare, The Oregonian offered the following tidbits of advice, which you can then forget Nov. 6, when standard time returns.

-- Change the clocks before you go to bed Saturday night.

-- Don't sleep in on Sunday. If you normally get up at 8 a.m., get up at 8, even if it feels like 7 to your sleep-deprived mind.

-- If you have trouble getting to sleep Sunday night -- remember, your 10 p.m. bedtime will feel like 9 at first -- avoid reading, eating or watching TV in bed, and go for complete quiet and darkness. Or take a hot bath. Or drink some soothing (noncaffeinated) tea. Or all of the above.

Your pets may need a few days to adjust, as will some children. The key is to get them on your schedule.
