Last summer Commissioner Randy Leonard promised to treat the 2007 BDS (Portland's Bureau of Development Services) summer student interns to a play at the Armory Gerding Theater.
On June 8, 2008, the students along with the Outreach Program Coordinator ventured out to a Sunday afternoon in the Pearl District.
Tiffani chose a play called “Doubt” which was the winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for the Best Play in 2005. The play was described by TheaterMania as “a modern mystery or thriller that ends with no certain answers…Doubt is a supreme contest of wills, an unflinching search for the truth and a measure of justice”. The message the play conveyed was about the role raising doubt plays in the hearts and minds of all of us, which is an important lesson for us all to adhere to.
After the play, we were treated to dinner at P F Changs by Realtor Earline Penson from Barbara Sue Seal/Coldwellbanker.
This was the perfect finish to a great play and was thoroughly enjoyed by the students. Because of this experience, many of the students are now interested in seeing more plays and experiencing more great restaurants our city has to offer.
On behalf of Melanyia, Viktor, Autumn, Mahn, our young mascot Dylan and myself, thank you Commissioner Leonard and Earline Penson for your generosity and for providing an experience the students can take with them forever.
